Full Service Community Schools grant submitted by LINC
A federal Full Service Community Schools grant was submitted by LINC and others partners this past week.
The highly competitive grant seeks funding for Northeast High School and James Elementary in the Kansas City, Mo. School District. Other partners in the application include the school district, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Services and Mattie Rhodes Community Center. The two schools are located in northeast Kansas City.
The grant addresses children facing elevated risks of school failure, disengagement and dropout; of developing behavioral problems; and of suffering the adverse consequences of delinquency, school truancy and substance abuse.
A large proportion of the population are English as a Second Language students, who struggle to gain cultural competence while facing high poverty, domestic abuse, homicide and gang violence.
