"Face-off To Debunk the Myths of Community Schools" -  April 8, 2010, Philadelphia, PA

Debate teams from Central High School in Kansas City, MO and Bodine High School in Philadelphia, PA face-off and dubunk the myths of community schools. The event at the National Constitution Center was part of the 2010 Coalition for Community Schools National Forum.

For the past 14 years, Central High School in Kansas City, Mo. has been a major force in the Urban Debate movement. They have sent qualified teams to the National Urban Debate Association national tournament, the National Forensic League, and the NCFL Grand Nationals. In the midwest, they have won tournaments in Iowa and Nebraska, and advanced to elimination rounds in Kansas, Illinois, and Kentucky. The squad received national recognition when the book, Cross-X, featured their coach, Joan Rinehart, and the team.

The Bodine High School debate team is one of the most successful teams in Philadelphia. The team has won several Philadelphia-wide debate titles in both Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas debate. Additionally, a student from the team has qualified for Nationals and placed in the top eight students at the Pennsylvania State Tournament. The student is also partially qualified for the nation-wide Tournament of Champions. Even more Bodine students are headed to the national qualifiers.
