Below is LINC statement on the intitiative.
The Local Investment Commission (LINC) believes schools serve many needs of children and families and can be the anchor for strong, stable neighborhoods.
That is possible when key institutions -- schools, non-profits, businesses, faith groups and local government -- work closely together. City government is a logical partner in this effort.
Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser's five-part Schools First proposal outlines a broader city role regarding schools and neighborhoods. Some parts of the proposal involve the city doing business differently; others specifically involve City Council action and voter approval.
LINC supports discussion of ideas on how to better organize opportunities and resources for schools and the children, families and neighborhoods they serve.
LINC is a non-partisan organization. While LINC encourages civic engagement, issue education and voting, it does not endorse individual candidates or ballot measures.
