MC+ for Kids is a health insurance program for families who do not have access to affordable health insurance. This program, which is part of the federal Children's Health Insurance Program, will provide health coverage to approximately 90,000 uninsured children in Missouri. What are the Goals and Opportunities for MC+ for Kids? MC+ for Kids will: Increase the availability of affordable health insurance for children; Provide children with a primary care provider -- someone to coordinate all aspects of their health care and preventive services; and Provide cost effective health care services Who is Covered? Children who have been uninsured for at least 6 months and whose family meet certain income and size guidelines. What are the Benefits? Children will receive all medically-necessary services from their health plan including: ¬ primary, acute and preventive care ¬ physical, occupational and speech therapy ¬ dental ¬ home and community-based services such as nursing and personal care ¬ medical equipment and supplies ¬ pharmacy benefits ¬ vision care ¬ lab and x-ray ¬ behavioral services such as outpatient counseling and inpatient psychiatric treatment Children from families required to pay a monthly premium will be covered 30 days after the application and premium are received. Children from families who are not required to pay a monthly premium will be covered upon approval or 30 days after the application is received in the Division of Family Services (DFS) office, whichever is sooner. How is Eligibility Determined? A one page application form is available at local DFS offices and at selected sites in hospitals, community centers, local health departments, mental health facilities and schools. Verification of income (check stub or other income verification), Social Security Number and immigration status (where applicable) will be required. Children must have been uninsured for at least six months. Children with family income levels requiring monthly premiums must not have access to affordable health care insurance. "Affordable health care insurance" is defined as insurance with a premium of $86 or less. (Affordable is defined as 133% of premiums paid by state employees for children through MO Consolidated Health Plan, $65 x 133% = $86) Other criteria may apply. How are Services Delivered? Eligible children will be enrolled through MC+ for Kids, Missouriās health insurance program for uninsured children. Families will choose a managed care plan, which provides the services. Completed application forms should be returned to the local Division of Family Services office.
