School Cleanups
Twenty-five urban churches will partner with the Kansas City, Missouri School District (KCMSD) for "Hands of Hope". This is an effort to revitalize and upgrade five local schools during a single day of cooperation on July 18. Community members and clergy will paint offices and classrooms, replace windows, upgrade landscaping and make other repairs at the following schools: Paige Elementary, Longfellow Elementary, Westport High, Ladd Elementary and Scarritt Elementary.
The Independence School District follows up on the success of last year's Extreme School Makeover with Project Shine. The community is being asked to volunteer the weekend of July 18-19 to help clean, paint and update these schools - Chrisman, Van Horn, Bridger, Nowlin and Korte. Missouri Reentry Process
Gov. Jay Nixon signed an executive order supporting cooperative community efforts to help ex-offenders successfully return to communities. The Missouri Reentry Process (MRP), directed by the Missouri Dept. of Corrections, provides tools for a smoother transition from incarceration to the community. The MRP began in 2002.
George Lombardi, director of the Missouri Corrections Department, joined business, community, nonprofit, law enforcement, faith-based and others involved at a March 27 event at Southeast Community Center to share the signing of the executive order.
